Customer Rating: Summary: simply accounting Comment: Very easy to use and set up. I have been using this system since 1994. Customer Rating: Summary: Seems OK, but ... Comment: I bought this when my Quickbooks 2000 started acting up (requiring me to press "enter" about 20 times to clear a cryptic message which objected that "another program is busy"). Simply Accounting seems to be an adequate alternative to QB, although it is less intuitive to use than QB. Perhaps this is just because I have grown used to using QB. My major complaint is that in order to be able to make adjustments to any invoice which has already been saved, you must have set up SA to use accrual- rather than cash-based accounting. QB has no such restriction. Since I use cash-basis, this is a major limitation. Because of this, I decided to resume using QB (after re-installing it, which eliminated the problem I mentioned). For the money, SA is a good product if the cash versus accrual issue is not a problem for you. Customer Rating: Summary: Not very impressed with Simply Accounting Basic Comment: I was hoping I'd like this more than the corporate bookkeeping system I currently use. We have an acccountant, but like to keep track of the day to day books and cash flow. I was hoping this would be a little easier on us (two of us handle bookkeeping and neither of us have a background in finance or accounting).
But I was really unimpressed. The templates aren't much of a help for our kind of business and there's not even a check register in the program!
Support is also pretty lousy. I know -- what can you expect for under $50, but I expected a flippin' check register at least!
While we will give this another try, I am more than likely going to go back to our old program and chalk this up to an unsuccessful adventure in our search for a good small business bookkeeping package. Customer Rating: Summary: A great piece of software at a great price! Comment: I' would like to start by saying that I made the mistake of buying Microsoft's Small Business Accounting 2006 first. I got sucked in because Microsoft offered a rebate that made it about the same price as Simply Accounting. I thought, "What a bargain!"
I am an idiot. What a big mistake. I should've taken PC Magazine's recommendation of buying Simply Accounting and saved myself [...].
Simply Accounting is by far the superior product hands down. It's flexible, easy to use, and allows me to adapt it to fit my accounting needs. Microsoft's SBA is clunky, rigid, inflexible and just plain horrible.
There are still a few things about Simply Accounting that I would like to see in future versions, but it's definitely the best software in its part of the market.
The only thing that I would criticize is that their tech support after your first 30 days is too expensive. There should be more tiers of support (ie. bronze, silver, gold) so that you can choose how much support you get and how much you pay. As it stands, I won't be paying for support because I can't afford it so I'm on my own after my 30 days is up.
